The End of Iqra’, The Beginning of Al-Quran
Praise be to God All-mighty, my daughter, Marsya, has finally finished reading her Iqra’ yesterday. I’m happy and grateful for her achievement. She is now in standard 2. I know for some parents, that may be considered late. I know that there are children who started reading Quran as early as 6 years old or standard 1 or even earlier than that. It’s fine. Everybody has his/her own capacity. For our children, we allow them to progress with their own pace but off course we do monitor them. We don’t want to pressure them. I have not yet purchase a new Al-Quran for Marsya. Perhaps, this today or tomorrow, we’ll purchase a new Al-Quran for her. We also need to prepare for a ceremony to make the traditional “pulut kuning” which is always done when the kids reach Al-Quran. I’ll leave that to my wife to think. She’ll probably outsource the “pulut kuning” to somebody… We have not decided when to organize this meaningful event.
Ikhwan, our first child started reading Al-Quran when he was in standard 3. Thanks to our neighbour, Cikgu Zahari who assisted us to bring Ikhwan for the Iqra’ lesson until he reached Al-Quran for two consecutive years (2010-2011). Cikgu Zahari actually send his son for the lesson and Ikhwan followed him. This year, all our kids read either Iqra’ or Al-Quran at home with us, the parents teaching them, after Magrib. It is quite a challenge to us, but we try to be discipline and invite them nicely to recite Quran.
Alya, the youngest, is currently reading Iqra’ 2. I hope she will be more committed and more hardworking to read Iqra’ consistently on a daily basis. If she can do that, she can read Al-Quran when she reaches standard 2. If she double her effort, I strongly believe she can read Al-Quran before reaching standard 2. Insya Allah.
