7 Tips to Overcome Sleepiness At Work

It’s a brand new day today but I already felt sleepy. Sometimes even though I sleep early the day before, I will still be sleepy the next day. Don’t mentioned it if I sleep late, I’ll surely be sleepier. So, I was discussing about how to overcome this “sleepy act” with my wife on our way to work just now. We managed to gather several good tips to help both of us overcome sleepiness at work (because we have too many works to do today). Staying awake is crucially important for us in order increase our productivity and to remain effective and efficient at work.

Well, here are they:

1. Chew some chewing gum and get yourself some sweets.

This effectively helps. While you are working (like me right now) in a sleepy and drowsiness state, the green colour Torrone sweet that is inside my mouth, I’m still typing this post. It smoothly stimulate my brain to work, think and slowly inhibits the sleepiness. Try it out and you will stay conscious.

2. Take a break and have some light refreshment.

If you run out of sweets and/or chewing gums, than it’s good for you to take a break and begin running to the canteen and have some coffee or any of your favourite drink. This will make you relax and refresh you for a while in order for you to have that extra energy soon (for work)

3.Take a break and browse Facebook or your favourite blog

Sometimes, this can make you stay away….aha… You are dying to see what is you friends update or maybe update your status for the day. Or you may as well read your favourite gossip blog or make money blog or gadget blog. This can also trigger your brain to be active again and soon after that you can continue with your official task.

4. Take a break and mingle with your friends

I love this one. I used to go out of my room and find some of my friends to chat with them for few minutes. It’s good because we are strengthening our relationship + we can get new information + new news. In other words it is like exchanging fresh ideas. This is one of my favourite techniques to overcome sleepiness.

5. Take a break, go to the wash room and wash your face

It is good to take a break and visit the wash room to see if the cleaner have cleaned it or not…aha…Sorry, I’m just kidding. Go there and wash your face. That will freshen you up. If you have your toothbrush and toothpaste, why not brush your teeth is well. It helps.

6. Take a short nap.

Sometimes, you are sleepy and tired at the same time. If you continue working, it may not be an effective and efficient day. So, it is better for you to take a short nap at work. Maybe you can rest on your chair and get some brief nap between 15 to 45 minutes (depending on the severity of your state). I used to do this quite often as well because my brain works too hard and I get exhausted really fast. I really need the sleep. This method work perfectly when I was working as a process engineer few years ago. I sleep during lunch hour (45 minutes) and after waking up I felt super fresh.

7. Short Exercise

Take a break and do some push up or jumping. If you jump too much, chances are your colleague will think you are crazy. If they think so, tell them you are sleepy and you want to let your blood flow radically inside your body. It will also fasten your heart beat and make you fresher.

    Take a nap.. memang mujarab kalau dah gila2 mengantuk.. Takpun pergi dapur cuci pinggan kalau kat rumah.. hahaha.. Kalau saya suka conteng2.. so, hilang jugak mengantuk.

    Lagi senang nak bagi tido dari tak nak bagi mengantuk. Dulu kalau nak tido cepat, ambik buku teks yang tebal tu, baca 2-3 paragraph terus lelap.. hehehe
