Google’s SEO Report Card

I subscribed to several informative and rich technical content blog such as Daily Blog Tips and read an article titled Google’s SEO Report Card. According to Daniele Scocco, the owner of DailyBlogTips.com, he was browsing through his RSS feeds and I came across an interesting post from the Google Webmaster Blog, titled Google’s SEO Report Card.,

The report, unlike other typical one, was created to help Google’s engineers to optimize their product pages for search engines. The report touches on many on-page and on-site SEO factors, such as title tags, meta tags, heading tags, canonical URLs, image tags and link anchors. They also provide examples to better illustrate what they want to convey.

It’s good that we know and understand the secrets behind the mystery of search engine optimization. So, if you are not an engineer by qualification, maybe you can be an SEO engineer… ;)

Here is the direct download link for the PDF. We are not sure how long this report will be available online, but act fast before it disappears.

New Blackberry Storm 9500

This is a follow up post for my new hobby and the answer to the question at the end of the post.

I got myself a new Blackberry Storm 9500 :)

Before this, I have been using with full heart my loyal Sony Erickson K810i. It has been such a tremendous servant to me and I believe I have really maximized K810i to its full potential. I used  almost every features available from basic call and SMS to listening to radio, browsing the web. However, lately, my beloved Sony Erickson has shown signs of fatigue after being actively used for 2 years and 3 months. I cannot key-lock it and sometimes some of the keys do not function well. I have repaired the hand phone twice and  I think it is about time to get myself a new toy.

I was aiming an iPhone 3G all this while but I don’t want to waste myself 2K plus. I know iPhone 3G is the most popular choice and I love it. My brother Budeen and sister Rina use iPhone. I love iPhone because of the available features and unbelievably numerous applications it possess. No need to mention all those aps here. But, if I own one, I’ll use it for reading hundreds of my .pdf files, audio files and others.

I surfed and searched for iPhone in Mudah.my. I found some good offers but I did not try to ask further. However, last week I saw somebody uploaded an ad to sell a new Blackberry Storm for RM1450. I thought it was a really interesting offer but I still let it go. Yesterday, I read a post by my good friend, Rohaizad who is also thinking to get himself a new set of smart hand phone. After reading his post, I surfed to my new favourite site, Mudah.my. Then, I saw the advertisement again. The Blackberry Storm price was now reduced to RM1250. Hey… that smart phone is still there. I immediately sms Andy, the advertiser whom I initially thought was a chinese (he’s a Malay).

BB

I asked numerous question about the Blackberry that he is selling. I need to know the detail. I asked him again what is his final offer and he said RM1200. Hmmm…this gets getter and better. All his answers and responses satisfied me and finally I decided to meet up with him 1 hour after the first sms to him. We met at Plaza Angsana in front of McDonalds. I checked, tested and tweaked the new set of Blackberry Storm with some good help from my more gadget savvy wife. After 1 and half hour checking out the BB 9500, I finally agreed to take the set. We made a final bargain and we got it at RM1100. I paid him all in cash and he handed me the box.

In the car, my wife explored the new blackberry while I drove home. I strongly feel that I had just made a wonderful and sweet purchased. I got a new Blackberry storm 9500 for RM 1100. What a bargain… :) A good bargain from Mudah.my…

Now… we’re still exploring the functions… I think it will take me some time to fully optimize the full function of the sleek elegant Blackberry Storm…

Somehow I think, some of you may want to ask me questions about this hp… is it real? original etc? Throw those questions and I’ll answer them honestly… ;)

November Rain Updates

Ops, it has been a while since I updated this blog. So, instead of creating several posts, I’m combining several updates.

1. New refrigerator – Sharp SJPT71R

Just bought a new refrigerator. Reason of buying new one: Older refrigerator is not stable anymore. Sometimes it is cold and sometimes not cold. Sometimes it is very very cold. The older refrigerator is of Electrolux which we have been using for the past 8 years.

The new refrigerator is Sharp SJPT71R is very spacious and has digital temperature display in front of it. The average energy consumption is 683 kwH

2. New stove cabinet

At the same time the stove cabinet is already very old does not fit the sophisticated look next to the brand new fridge. So, we bought a new stove cabinet which cost RM139. Luckily we have the spacious Proton Exora, so we can straight away carry the cabinet stove into our MPV and because of that the price was slashed to RM129. Isn’t that great?

3. New digital camera

My younger brother borrowed our Nikon digital camera for his noble activities. At the same time, I was planning to get myself a new digital camera that is small and handy. I love snapping photos especially foods, candid and scenery. Yesterday, I decided to just buy a digital camera at Jusco Taman Universiti. After a lot of thinking and comparing (a) Super Panasonic Lumix water proof and shock proof digital camera and (b) Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS42, I finally chose the latter.

It cost me RM549 + the LCD protective layer RM29. The black coloured body of the Lumix DMC-FS42 (also available in silver) is a 10 MP camera and I received 2Gb memory car, a cool black magnetic cover and a mini tripod.

4. New IM adventure

This is interesting because I’m soon coming out with my own digital product. I am happy and excited with this fact. In addition to that, I have another 2 projects in the line and those 2 products are expected to be released early next year. Just wait for my new digital information product. I’ll announce it later.

5. New birthday girl

It’s my daughter’s birthday. Alya is 4 years old and she’s amazingly a very easy going girl and the most social kid among her older sister and older brother. She wanted a baby doll that can produce sound and she got one yesterday. We are going to celebrate her birthday in a short while after wards.

6. New movie – 2012

We watch 2012 the movie on the very first day when it was launched. It’s a very good movie and I enjoyed in very much. This time, there were 5 of us watching the movie at TGV Jusco Tebrau City, and that include myself, my wife, my mother, my brothers Adi and Arif. It cost us RM61 all together. For me, I personally think that the movie is better than Transformers 2.

Old Laptop Versus New Laptop

God knows how insane i’m dying to blog every day and night. However, due to my daily constraint as a ph.d student as well as a family man, I have very limited time to spend on my online curriculum activities…hehe…

Just updating what I’m doing now… I’m transfering important files and software from my older HP laptop to my new Toshiba laptop. At the same time, I’m also installing few other important software such as FTPzilla, directory submitter software, camstudio software, keyword expert software and a lot of other softwares to this new Toshiba laptop. I need to do this because the HP laptop is extremely slow. I’m going to seek Abu’s help to check and service my laptop this weekend. I hope he’ll be able to recover the power of my HP laptop later.

New White Toshiba Laptop

Published by cyza under Gadget ~ Technology

I mentioned earlier that I need a new laptop as a back up for my HP laptop. My HP laptop will be 2 years old this coming December. The HP laptop with Manchester United skin has been such a great servant to me and I will carry it wherever I go. I don’t need a smart phone such as blackberry, HTC or iphone as a mobile office. For me, it’s not convenient to work from such a tiny device. I just carry my laptop and work from it anywhere. It’s totally my choice. The sweetest think about my HP laptop is it paid from my online income.

Last 2 weeks I received my new Toshiba laptop from work. Since, I already have my own laptop, I’m dedicating the Toshiba laptop for certain jobs such as simulation and optimization works. for that reason, I’ve installed Adobe CS3, Statistika and Matlab software. By doing that, I’m not burdening my HP laptop because it already contains a huge number of softwares and application.

So, I have a new back up laptop and I’m very glad. I did mention that I need to get a new digital camera, handphone and a printer. The good thing is my Sony Erickson HP is still working very good and I don’t think I need a new one. However, I should think of a new hand phone as a back up plan in case the K810i could not perform as it is suppose to.

Our old Canon A950 suddenly works fine as well and I think we don’t need to get a new one. However, in case it suddenly breaks down and could not recover, I already plan to get ourselves the new 8.1MP Automatic Panasonic Lumix digital camera. I’ve eyed this digital camera since the last 2 months. Well, that’s the back up digital camera for us.

Printer, yes, I’m going to buy the Canon laser printer soon, probably this Tuesday or Wednesday. It’s going to be stationed in my office house.

Gadgets Wanted

Published by cyza under Gadget ~ Technology

It is a fact we have to accept that after some time our gadget will get older, out dated, malfunction etc. The same goes with me. After a while I need to change some of my gadgets. I’m going to get a new digital camera, new hand phone, new printer and new laptop (for back-up).

New Digital Camera required

Our family’s Nikon 5.1 mega pixel digital camera was purchased in 2004 and it is very old now. The display is already in very bad condition. I think it can be repaired but I’m not sure about the cost. I prefer getting a new slim sleek small digital camera. I’m now eying for a new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS 6 digital camera 8mp with lithium battery. I don’t prefer the AA size battery because the lithium battery is more convenient, just like the hand phone. The prize of the Panasonic Lumix 8 mp camera is about RM599 in a digital camera outlet in Jusco Taman Universiti. I will also visit Courts Mammoth Larkin because I notice an attractive offer in an advertisement sent to my house. I’ll make a post about it when after buying one.

New Hand Phone also required

My Sony Erickson K810i are now in poor condition. I think the battery-power connection has broken or something else… It could not charge my hand phone and I’m so sad and disappointed. Now, I’m using our family back up hand phone, Nokia 2100 which is very simple. However, the Nokia 2100 is creating some other problem now, I can’t sms other people!!! That’s bad. It could not serve the basic purpose of a hand phone which is for calling and text messaging. I’m not sure which hand phone to choose right now. I think I still prefer Sony Erickson, perhaps C903.

New Printer also required

Since I bought the 4 in 1 HP 5600 printer last year, I have hardly use it. I’m so frustrated with the printer. The cartridge holder could not move freely as it was supposed to work. As a result, the printer was covered with dust and after massive trouble shooting by me and my wife, we decided that the printer was useless. I can only make myself feel good to say that at least we can use for scaning document. So now, I’m thinking of getting my IT department in my house a new canon laser printer which I plan to purchase in Jusco Taman Universiti. The Canon laser printer cost RM399. I have not yet studied the specification or performances but I think it should be OK for domestic use.

New Back Up Laptop required

This coming december, my current HP laptop will be 2 years old. It is still running perfectly fine. However, I still need to prepare back up for it if in case it suddenly create unwanted problem. I hope it won’t. I’ll be getting a new Toshiba laptop from work and I plan to make it a back up for my present laptop. ‘m not sure when I’ll get them, but I believe it will be soon.

Well, those are basically some of the items that I badly need right now. Not sure when to buy them, but I can say really soon.

BlackBerry overtakes iPhone!

Published by cyza under Gadget ~ Technology

What does that mean? Does it mean that Blackberry (in this case, smart phone Blacberry Storm) is gaining more popularity than iPhone 3G. Should iPhone change it marketing strategy? Should iPhone reduce the price and create better offer for their prospective customers world wide?

This is true as stated in a special report: BlackBerry Curve overtakes iPhone as most popular smartphone from Yahoo Tech.

Chalk it up to the fact that the Curve is available on the four biggest U.S. carriers, not to mention a two-for-one sale on Verizon Wireless. Also in the top five for the first quarter of 2009: The Storm and the T-Mobile G1.
The NPD Group just released its U.S. smartphone sales numbers for Q1, and according to their numbers, RIM had BlackBerrys in three of the top five positions, and managed to topple the iPhone 3G from the top of the list.

Despite its early launch woes, the touchscreen BlackBerry Storm appears to be selling strongly, coming in a No. 3 on NPD’s list behind the Curve and the iPhone 3G.

After the Storm comes the ever-popular BlackBerry Pearl—which, like the Curve, is available on all four major U.S. carriers—followed by the Android-powered G1 on T-Mobile.

So, how did the Curve manage to overtake the iPhone 3G? Well, as the NPD group notes, availability on all the big carriers always helps (the iPhone is, of course, still only on AT&T), as well as its $99 (with a new two-year contract) price tag. Meanwhile, Verizon Wireless probably helped boost Curve sales with its “buy one, get one free” promotion, according to NPD.  Read Full Story.

For me, for the time being, I’m going to watch and see. iPhone is definitely a fantastic and amazing handphone. I have not yet seen Blacberry Storm which in some review gained numerous positive praises. However, a cheaper option which I suddenly discover earlier today is a smartphone from Toshiba, which my colleague just bought. It’s a cheap touchscreen smartphone which slides. Hmm.. well, I’ll just settle with the Samsung U700 for now until I have extra cash to spare on new gadgets.

iPhone 3g 3rd Generation

Published by cyza under Gadget ~ Technology

I fancy an iPhone 3G handphone but I guess I rather wait for the introduction of the iPhone 3G 3rd Generation which might be released this summer. Don’t know how much it will cost yet, but I’ll spare some cash for it… Check out the video… I’ll introduce more video soon, thanks to the free courses that I attended before.

NBOX: WE CANNOT be absolutely sure, but the indications so far are that Apple will launch a brand new version of its iPhone some time in the summer, probably in June.

This week, possibly in anticipation of a new handset, it has announced a new version of the software that runs the iPhone, which will give it many more features than previously.

Only techy developers will get to play with it for now, though. Does that mean I shouldn’t bother giving you a preview or advising you to perhaps wait to buy an iPhone, if you can? I think we know the answer to that.

iPhone 3.0 OS, the next generation operating system for the iPhone and iPod touch, comes with more than 100 new features, new applications and the one thing iPhone users have been screaming for for two years – the ability to cut and paste text.

As well as that, you will also be able to copy and paste photos between applications as well as search across the entire information contained in your device, no matter where it’s buried. Lost the street address of you parents-in-law? It’ll find it, whether you want it or not.

A major change will also be support for 3G tethering. This feature will allow you to connect your iPhone 3G to a laptop, to use it as a modem to access the internet. The stumbling block may be some carriers stopping this, but most will simply charge more for it. It’s also going to be a lot easier to type on the iPhone touch screen as Apple has added the landscape keyboard mode to applications, like Mail, SMS and Notes.

You will also be able to send multimedia messages like images and sounds, something the iPhone has inexplicably prevented so far.

A few other more major improvements will be the ability to send and receive files between iPhones or the iPod Touch.

A new wireless ability to play games between two iPhones which will be pretty amazing is set to ignite even more games for the iPhone.

There is also a hint the new iPhone software will let you control to your accessories like equalize the sound in a loudspeaker.

Free IT Courses

What I liked about my present job is the opportunity to enroll myself in free courses organized by Center of Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Center of Information, Communication and Technology (CICT). Both centers occasionally organized good courses to help and enhance staffs skills in various aspects.

Today, I attended a 2 day short course – Audio and Visual for Teaching. This is what part of the skill that I wanted to learn all this while. It was the first day and I already learned a lot of things related to audio and visual. At the end of the course, I should be able to comprehend and apply audio – audacity, create and edit videos using a number of useful softwares (open source softwares, off course). I manage to edit a video and upload them to Youtube.com. I also learned to use camstudio, windows movie maker, Ulead software to create videos from my own laptop. I may share some of the knowledge I gained later…

Last 2 weeks, I attended a 2 day statistical course which thought us how to use a software called Statistical Package Social Science. The application is more towards social science statistics (I’m more inclined to engineering statistics) but it’s OK as long as I learned something free of charge.

Next week, I should be joining a 4 days course entitle “Development of Dreamweaver Web”, which specially designed for webmasters. I have not yet received the invitation letter but I’m expecting it to be in my pigeon hole in one or two days.

I’m still waiting for CICT to organize another Adobe Photoshop course so I can learn and apply them easily. I guess I’m lucky to be able to attend all these courses free of charge with excellent refreshments provided.

Now, I guess you might be wandering, am I too free to attend many courses? :)
