Ever since I posted about the top 5 gadgets that I want in 2012, I have been quite interested to read reviews on the smart phones, laptops and other cool new gadgets. I think it is about time I dedicate a day in a week to make a review on some of the selected gadgets (which I’m interested, off course). Hence, I have decided to make Tuesday a Cyza Sector Tech Review day. So, from now on, whenever you read my blog on Tuesday, you will surely read my review on selected gadgets. What do you think of that idea?

For a start, I’ll make a review on the new and extravaganza Samsung Galaxy S Advance.

Samsung Galaxy S Advance Review

It’s been almost a week now since the new “Samsung Galaxy S Advance” had been launched. It is also known as i9070. The date of its release was 30^th of January.  Till now the phone has not been seen but according to the reports it will soon be released in Russia and later in the other parts of the world.

Android 4 ICS:

Sadly, the phone comes with “android 2.3.6 Gingerbread” and not with awaited “Android 4 ICS”. It would be upgradable to ICS 4 later after it is made available in the market.

Design:

If you are looking at its design then the phone is of curved shape. It seems like it is the mixture of “galaxy nexus” and the “galaxy S2”.

Copy of Galaxy R:

The phone is pretty much the same as the original Galaxy which showed up 2 years ago, except some features like increased memory, Dual core and updated OS. But the major features remain the same. e.g.  1500mAh battery, 4 inch 480 x 800 display, 5 MP camera and HSPA.

Display:

The phone owns a 4 inch super AMOLED screen with a 480 x 800 screen resolution.

Specialities for the Samsung Galaxy S advance:

Samsung Galaxy S Advance offers a 5MP main camera with 720P video recording. It also offers a front camera of 1.3MP for video dialling etc. The weight of the cell phone is 120 grams which is not that heavy and the dimensions are 123 x 63 x10 mm (approx.). The phone can easily be carried anywhere with you. But if you have a small pair of hands then it might tickle you a bit.

Phone possesses a 768MB of RAM which is quite ok if not the best. It comes with 8/16 GB storage capacity expandable up to 32GB with micro SD card.

Samsung Galaxy S Advance is easy to hold and not too big like Samsung Galaxy Note

It has integrated applications such as the Samsung Touch Wiz, and Samsung Live Panel UX, applications of Samsung which are: Kies 2.0, Samsung Kies Air, ChatON, Readers Hub, Music Hub, Game Hub, Polaris Office, as well as Find My Mobile.

Samsung has not mentioned a price for this phone but it is said it would be 336$. That is a high price for a phone like this. Many other phones are offering greater features and they are being sold at much lower price than that.

Hope so this set will be made available in upcoming “mobile world congress” along with “galaxy S3”. The show will be held later this month in Barcelona. Before that, check out Samsung Galaxy S Advance video below:

As stated in my earlier post, finally I managed to grab hold on one of my wanted gadgets for 2012. It is the new Casio G-Shock Riseman G-9200. I wanted this watch mainly because I have not bought for myself any watch (entire life before) and at the same time I want to have a tough durable watch with thermometer and pressure features. With G-Shock Riseman G-9200 I can have a combination of shock resist, 200m water resist, solar powered (cool!!! No battery needed), world time, altimeter (I can know how much high I am from the sea water level), Barometer (I can know the pressure of the environment I am at) and thermometer (I can know the temperature of my surrounding). Those are among the G-Shock Riseman G-9200 specifications.

OK, inside the box, we have the warranty card. The warranty for this G-Chock Riseman G-9200 is limited to one year. At the warranty card, it shows the terms and condition for warranty, the email to contact if there is any problem, the model of the G-Shock that we purchase and the date of purchase. In my case the date of purchase is 21/1/2012. The seller gave me 14 days personal warranty and after that the G-Shock 1 year warranty takes place.

This is the new beautiful metal like casing that covers the G-Shock Riseman 9200-1. According to the seller, previously no metal casing was given. The G-shock is only given in the box.

There you are. The new G-Shock Riseman 9200-1 that I have waited for quite some time. How does it look? Cool?

Yes, that’s a G-Shock Riseman 9200-1 on my wrist. Can you see the temperature and pressure? This was taken just now and the temperature is 29.2 Celcius and the pressure is 29.60 inHg.

To test the functionality of the temperature measurement capability, I placed my Casio G-Shock Riseman G-9200 in the freezer. The freezer is set at -14 degree Celsius. After about 5 minutes, I retrieved my watch and checked the temperature. It shows -1.5 degree Celcius. I won’t let it stay too long in the freezer because the temperature range of this watch is just

I have not read the G-Shock Riseman manual yet. I will read later on.

Read other comprehensive G-Shock Riseman GW-9200 review here. There’s a very slight difference between G-9200 and GW-9200 but in overall they are 99% the same. G-9200 is non-atomic while GW-9200 has atomic feature.

So, how much do you think the cost of this watch?

I made a brief survey in Plaza Angsana Johor Bahru to see for myself the watch and price by myself. I visited 4 watch shops. In all watch / clock shops that I visited, the price tag is RM999. One of the shop put RM899 price tag. Some of the shops said that they provide 20% discount if I want to purchase it. Wow…the prices are quite high!!! Don’t you think so?

I also made a survey in Mudah.my, ebay.com and ebay.com.my. The price is relatively cheaper than the one sold in the shops. I found one seller in Mudah.my that offers a new G-Shock Riseman 9200-1 at RM480. I SMS him and he replied that he has the model that I wanted. I asked him whether he can reduce the price. He offered me RM470 ~ last offer. I agreed and waited for the watch. This was a Cash-On-Delivery (COD) purchase.

Last Friday, I met the seller. He was nice and we chatted. He gave me the watch and even invited me to the nearby watch shop to verify the authenticity of the G-Shock Watch that I purchased from him. I said, it is ok. No need to do so because it look original to me. Remember, I have visited few shops previously and I can say that it is original and not a fake one.

In addition, I know how the fake G-Shock Riseman looks like. My son owns one. It’s fake and there’s no features accept for the light and stock watch.

I gave him RM500. He don’t have any change. So, he said… It’s OK, I sell it to you for RM450. I was surprised!!! But, I pulled out RM20 from my wallet and paid exactly RM470.

So, the total price of G-Shock Riseman 9200that I paid is RM470 (about USD$156). I’m happy with my new watch!!!

I will certainly purchase some more watches from that guy later in future. I planned to purchase Casio Edifice (not digital).

Who doesn’t want new gadgets for him or herself? I want new gadgets myself. I believe you also want one or two or more… Don’t you? I would like to list here my gadget wish for 2012. Check it out below:

1. Samsung Galaxy Note or Samsung Galaxy SII. I want either this to upgrade from my present Samsung Galaxy Ace.

The great Samsung Galaxy Note. It cost RM222X in Malaysia now.

2. New Laptop – Powerful one. It will either be Toshiba or Asus Laptop. I have no interest with Sony Vaio Laptop. I have been using my present Toshiba white laptop for a while and I think it is loaded with too many softwares (for my career/Ph.D and my online activities).

This is ASUS Zenbook UX31E DH52 – Core i5 – 4 GB Ram. Anybody want to gift this as a present to me? Roughly RM3600++

3. New Printer. It can be a 3 in 1 colour laser printer or 3 in 1 black laser printer. I just need a printer for myself in my own office room at work. If it is not a 3 in 1 printer, then I will get additional stand alone scanner. I’ll make my work as paperless possible.

This is HP Color LaserJet 2840 All-in-One Color Laser which cost somewhere around RM1xxx.

4. New DSLR camera. I have a compact digital camera now but I’m thinking to give the camera to my kids. For replacement, I think I should get myself a new DSLR camera. I have been eying Nikon D90 and Nikon D3100 so far. However, I’m not serious yet to purchase one because I have spoken to myself to complete my Ph.D first before getting my hands on this pricy piece of equipment.

5. Casio G-Shock Riseman 9200-1. For your information, I have never owned or purchased a wrist watch. All wrist watches that I owned are gifts from my wife, father and from lucky draw!!! After all this time, I’ll get myself a new Casio G-Shock Riseman 9200-1. Why this model? Because I want a G-Shock that have Thermometer, Altimeter and Barometer. Don’t ask why I need those features. I’m an engineer and I would like to have those data accessible to me anytime anywhere.

Yep… the title of this entry is my new smart phone. After several months wondering and considering various types of hand phone / smart phone including iphone 4 and blackberry, I settled happily with Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830. This smart phone is nothing like the previous Samsung u700 that my wife own few years ago which was not that efficient. This Galaxy Ace has Android froyo 2.2 operating system with it. I’m not sure how to describe it. Maybe this article will be quite misleading because I’m very new to android, the little green robot. From what I know, android enables the smart phone to sync with our Google account. More than that, I’m not sure yet.

Me and my wife just purchased it yesterday at 5.40pm at a local hand phone shop in Taman Universiti. We are very comfortable with that hand phone shop. The sales persons are very nice, friendly and helpful. Their after sales service are also tip top. So, we felt comfortable purchasing from them on top of getting the smart phone slightly cheaper than market price.

It took me some time to depart from my loyal K810i Sony Erickson which looked really old and worn out. But, the Samsung Galaxy Ace which cost my wife RM890 managed to make me forget my older hand phone. This Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 is far superior than the previous Blackberry Storm 9500 that I own last year. That Blackberry storm is my worse gadget purchased so far. I made such a nasty and fast decision purchasing that one… It is so bad that I repaired and reused my Sony Erickson K810i.

The sales lady at the shop we purchased the smart phone helped installed papago GPS and also some ring tone. The memory is still 2GB which is in given in the box. I don’t plan to add the memory for the time being.

The aps..oh my God… there are thousands of useful aps inside the market. I cannot help it. I installed several which were the most important for me first. That include adobe reader, prayer time, periodic table, physics formula, chemical formula, Facebook aps, Twitter aps, Think and Grow Rich ebook and several more that I cannot remember.

I’m still exploring the Samsung Galaxy Ace. What I can say for now after purchasing and using it for 26 hours – I’m happy, I’m proud to own the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830.

For those of you who are not using any smart phone yet, you might want to consider this Samsung Galaxy Ace. It is one affordable and sleek smart phone. Why iPhone 4 if you can get one that looks like it and perform at par or maybe better in Samsung Galaxy Ace. Well… iPhone 4 memory is more superior…  The choice is yours. I made mine already…

Oh yes… I almost forget to inform.. This new hand phone is conjunction of my birthday + father’s day + our 10th anniversary. It’s an integrated gift… hehe
