Visit and lending some helping hand to the poorest people

poor1

Last Saturday afternoon, we had the opportunity to visit 5 unfortunate families which are categories as among the poorest in Gelang Patah area, or possibly in Johor Bahru too. They earn less than RM400 per month and they survive with only that amount of money. Thanks to our friend, Maizon who also is our insurance agent, whom invited us to participate in this honorable activity. It was an annual activity organized by her insurance agency.

Following are just some of the selected photos that I have chosen within my limited time while doing my experiments and thinking about my research.

poor2

This was taken before we visited the house. There were all together 3 cars and 1 MPV. Off course the MPV is my white Proton Exora. My White Proton Exora was loaded with supplies for 2 families.

poor3

Those are the supplies mentioned earlier. Besides food stuffs, there are also clothes which were donated which was put in my MPV after I took this photo.

poor4

One of the house that we visited has this. Under the house is actually river of Gelang Patah (not sure what river). Actually all of the houses that we visited are not in good condition.

poor5

The 3rd house visited by us. This family has 2 children who are not physically healthy and a wife who is not mentally healthy too.

poor6

That’s me in action, off course, carrying 2 packed of 10kg rice.

poor8

The roof condition of the 3rd house. Well, that was in short our pictorial experience on our recent Saturday afternoon activity. To be continued soon…

The mystery of research

Published by cyza under Blogging ~ Sharring, Happenings

eksp1

I am not suppose to write a blog post at this moment. I will usually write any post after work, at home. However, today, I need to release some of my stress and tension somewhere. I need to channel them to a safer place which would not harm or jeopardize anybody’s safety.

It’s all about not having enough equipment to run my experiment. I have planned to purchase all this experimental set-up for more then 1 year. One by one, these equipments, parts arrived. However, after certain extend running the experiment, I notice I’m missing something. Then, in order to successfully and smoothly run the experiment, I have to swiftly order the equipment and as a result I have to wait again. I just hope, I will successfully prepare all equipments, tools and bloody thing that is required to run the experiment and get some results.

Well, this is what we call research. We do something, meaning we “search” for something… then we discovered that it’s not working. Then we “search” again why it’s not working. That is call “re-search” = “research”. It’s a process and this process require huge amount of patient.

eksp2

I’m basically at that stage now. I’m taking my breath and trying to be as patient as possible. Need to think of a new strategy on how to solve my problem. Need to plan my work so it can be completed in the allocated time.

Credit to Tun for taking the nice photos of me with my experimental rig.

Put paper inside ears and get it out in the operation theater

Note: I’m writing @ typing this blog post from a side of a bed in Johor Specialist Hospital, Johor Bahru.

As the title shows, that is what happen to my son. 3 weeks ago, Ikhwan played inserting small papers inside his left and right ears at school.

Last Friday, we went to the clinic as he complained about something stuck inside his left ear. It was found that some sort of wax has emerged inside his ears, possibly an infection due to his act of inserting paper inside his ear. The doctor vacuumed the left ear and the wax was successfully removed but with some struggle as Ikhwan cannot sit still at all. After the left ear is clear, the doctor checked the right ear which Ikhwan does not feel anything. Just pure checking…

The doctor found a tiny piece of paper inside his right ear.

To cut things short, today we met the doctor again to see the outcome – to check whether the paper is still there or dissolve. Well, guess what…. the paper is still there and not only the doctor, but me and my wife can see the paper using the tool (i don’t know what it is called) to look into the ear thing.

He asked us to immediately go to the Johor Specialist hospital and meet up with the E&T (ear and throat) Specialist, Dr. Ridzo. He said that Ikhwan need to be taken to the operation theater in order to remove that tiny piece of paper. Wow…. that bad…

Ikhwan was shaken to learn the news. He started crying, fearing the experience he will be facing soon.

Before we continued to register Ikhwan’s admission into the ward, we checked with our insurance agent about the payment procedure. This is very imperative as we have paid insurance consistently each and every month for the pass 5 years. We will be devastated if the insurance would not cover the cost of this minor treatment in the specialist hospital.

To cut long story short… Ikhwan was admitted to the day care ward and to standby to be called into the operation theater.

To be continued…

Teater Bangsawan Nilam Dewani

teater1

Last Friday, for the first time, we went to see a theater in Dewan Jubli Intan, Johor Bahru. I get to know about the theater from JBCool.com, a site that shares update and information on Johor Bahru. The entrance was free and we managed to get the front sit. It was an interesting show and we loved it. In between the shows, while those people change the back drop for different story line, we were entertain by various singers and great dancers. Really interesting. Oh, I wonder how the Puteri Gunung Ledang theater will compare with this? Overall, we are very satisfied with the show and job well done to all actors, actresses, dancers, singers, musicians, script writer, director and everybody who has contributed to the success of the show… :)

teater3

This is the prices – Puteri Nilam Dewani. She’s the main star in this theater.

teater4

Some 70s show plus dancers… Awesome!!!

teater5

Some other dancers for a hindustan song that night

teater6

The sound system control panel behind the audience.

teater7

All the actors and actresses post after the show was over

Quick Q and A…

1) Will I watch a theater again?

Yes, depends on the cost, venue and time.

2) Was it worth my time?

Yes indeed. For a first timer, I loved it too. The only think I dislike is a middle or old female singer who sings but I can’t get what she’s pronouncing. It’s a combination between the loud music and unclear voice.

3) How can we know if there is another theater in Johor Bahru?

Check out and subscribe to JBcool.com. You’ll get all interesting JB updates there.

1Malaysia Bloggers Code of Ethics

Published by cyza under Blogging ~ Sharring, Happenings

One sweet afternoon about 1 month ago, I had a nice lunch in a restaurant with my wife. While waiting for the food to arrive, I grabbed an interesting looking Times magazine which was displayed in one corner of a large wooden cabinet. The issues posted on the cover of that Times magazine triggered me. I’ve forgotten the actual title but the message was “Bloggers against government of China“. It was a Times issue that was published in 2006. The government of China has felt the heat and challenge from the growing numbers of bloggers in that nation. The freedom to speak and to voice out opinion via blogging suddenly became something that the government cannot ignore. I did not read the entire article because my lunch meal had arrived. However, the message that I learned was, the growing number of bloggers worried the government of China. The bloggers which can be anybody became more and more brave to voice out almost anything. Remember, that happen in 2006 and it had already open their leaders eye, and made the Times magazine featuring a special issue on that matter.

Is blogger a threat to society? community?

So, what is it now or what does that have to do with us here in Malaysia? I strongly believe almost 95% or more of the visitors to this blog is a blogger, no matter what platform you blog with, either from a self hosted blog, a free wordpress.com or blogspot.com blog, a facebook blog which is gaining popularity now, micro-blogging twitter or so on. Each and everyday, the numbers of blog registered and active increases. Our government, with the new slogan, 1Malaysia, realizes the impact driven by the emergence of web 2.0 and how it can influences the overall citizen of Malaysia. It is the sensitive provoking issues which possibly lead to the instability of the country and also lack of integrity in delivering information and news which is of high concern to the government. The bloggers, which now acts like a virtual independent media plays an important role in our political and civic future and that it is important for the truth to be told through responsible reporting.

Published on an internet news site, these guidelines are based on the US-based Society of Professional Journalists’ code of ethics for bloggers. A small selection follows.

Bloggers should:

• Be honest and fair in gathering, reporting and interpreting information

• Never plagiarise

• Identify and link to sources whenever feasible

• Never publish information they know is inaccurate – and if publishing questionable information, make it clear it’s in doubt

• Distinguish between advocacy, commentary and factual information

• Admit mistakes and correct them promptly

• Show good taste. Avoid pandering to lurid curiosity

• Explain each blog’s mission and invite dialogue with the public over its content and the bloggers’ conduct

• Disclose conflicts of interest, affiliations, activities and personal agendas

• Abide by the same high standards to which they hold others

I find such standards critical to developing a respectful and productive dialogue, and will endeavour to adhere to them as best as I can. What are your thoughts on this code? Are there any best practices that you can think of that have not been included?

Adopted and referred from 1Malaysia.com.my.

Zamrin also touches a little on code of ethic for bloggers.

November Rain Updates

Ops, it has been a while since I updated this blog. So, instead of creating several posts, I’m combining several updates.

1. New refrigerator – Sharp SJPT71R

Just bought a new refrigerator. Reason of buying new one: Older refrigerator is not stable anymore. Sometimes it is cold and sometimes not cold. Sometimes it is very very cold. The older refrigerator is of Electrolux which we have been using for the past 8 years.

The new refrigerator is Sharp SJPT71R is very spacious and has digital temperature display in front of it. The average energy consumption is 683 kwH

2. New stove cabinet

At the same time the stove cabinet is already very old does not fit the sophisticated look next to the brand new fridge. So, we bought a new stove cabinet which cost RM139. Luckily we have the spacious Proton Exora, so we can straight away carry the cabinet stove into our MPV and because of that the price was slashed to RM129. Isn’t that great?

3. New digital camera

My younger brother borrowed our Nikon digital camera for his noble activities. At the same time, I was planning to get myself a new digital camera that is small and handy. I love snapping photos especially foods, candid and scenery. Yesterday, I decided to just buy a digital camera at Jusco Taman Universiti. After a lot of thinking and comparing (a) Super Panasonic Lumix water proof and shock proof digital camera and (b) Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS42, I finally chose the latter.

It cost me RM549 + the LCD protective layer RM29. The black coloured body of the Lumix DMC-FS42 (also available in silver) is a 10 MP camera and I received 2Gb memory car, a cool black magnetic cover and a mini tripod.

4. New IM adventure

This is interesting because I’m soon coming out with my own digital product. I am happy and excited with this fact. In addition to that, I have another 2 projects in the line and those 2 products are expected to be released early next year. Just wait for my new digital information product. I’ll announce it later.

5. New birthday girl

It’s my daughter’s birthday. Alya is 4 years old and she’s amazingly a very easy going girl and the most social kid among her older sister and older brother. She wanted a baby doll that can produce sound and she got one yesterday. We are going to celebrate her birthday in a short while after wards.

6. New movie – 2012

We watch 2012 the movie on the very first day when it was launched. It’s a very good movie and I enjoyed in very much. This time, there were 5 of us watching the movie at TGV Jusco Tebrau City, and that include myself, my wife, my mother, my brothers Adi and Arif. It cost us RM61 all together. For me, I personally think that the movie is better than Transformers 2.
