How Malaysians Can Own Shares In Facebook: A Step-By-Step Guide

I just watched a documentary in BBC2 channel yesterday about the story of Facebook. The story pretty much covers the one that can be seen in the movie, however, there was more story in the documentary. Facebook is really interesting and fascinating. When Mark Zuckerberg was offered 6 billion dollars from Microsoft to purchase Facebook, we rejected the offer. That says something ain’t it? Among interesting stories that I got from the documentary is that Facebook office has a vending machine. This vending machine is to get new keyboards. Any Facebook staffs who has his/her keyboard spoil, can get a new keyboard by disposing the old/spoil keyboard into the vending machine and a new keyboard will come out. How cool is that. Then, all staffs at Facebook get to eat free meals. All staffs at Facebook have sufficient sport and recreational activities to keep them relax, creative and not to stress. Mark’s desk is not in a room. In fact his office is in the center of the other staffs.

OK, back to the real story. Facebook is going public! Yes, you heard that right. That’s very interesting. Finally a big company is going to open its share to the market. What is it for Malaysians? That simply means some of us can have some extend of ownership of Facebook.

Speculators across the world are wondering if the hype of Facebook’s initial public offering (IPO) will be artificially driving up its price. In fact, according to Reuters, Facebook’s IPO is already oversubscribed, despite some concerns about slowing growth, high valuation and signs the company is having trouble increasing revenue from mobile advertising.

Below are a few recent quotes / comments by market experts on the topic:

“Most retail investors will be shut out of the offering and won’t get the IPO price, meaning they likely will have to pay more in the days that follow if they want an early piece of the action.” – The Wall Street Journal

“The valuation can be justified only if investors assume that Facebook can continue its rapid growth.” – Gerard Hoberg, Associate Professor of Finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland.

“When the smoke clears, it is likely for Facebook to carry a $100 billion market capitalization over top of $1 billion in 2011 net income.” – SeekingAlpha.com

Rumour has it the Facebook IPO will create more than 900 millionaires, mostly among Facebook’s early employees. It is no wonder that many casual investors have strong desires to buy a piece of the stock, just to own a part of the company they use so often.

Do Malaysians want to buy Facebook shares? After all, Malaysia is one of the most sociable countries on Facebook.

For those who are interested, the iMoney.my research team has put together a table that compares some of Malaysia’s top brokers. So how do you actually get a piece of Facebook share?

A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO BUY FACEBOOK SHARES

Before you can purchase any Facebook shares (or any overseas shares for that matter), there are generally a few things you need to do:

1) Open A Foreign Shares Security Trading Account With A Broker.

To do this, you will need to bring along

a copy of your NRIC,
a recent bank statement, and
an account opening fee (usually around RM10 to RM30)

to the nearest branch of your preferred broker. Some brokers (e.g. CIMB) have downloadable forms online that you can complete prior to visiting the branch in order to reduce your wait time. Maybank allows you to complete the application online if you’re an existing customer.

2) Register For An Online Trading Account

This is an additional step if you would like to buy your Facebook shares online (i.e. not through phone transactions). Most brokers would offer to register an online trading account for you while you set up your security account at the branch, however, you must explicitly request for this.

3) Log-On and Find the NASDAQ Stock Market

Like most technology-related companies, Facebook will be listed on the US NASDAQ share market. To find Facebook shares, you will need to look under the stock code “FB”.

4) Purchase Facebook Shares

Based on a number of market commentaries, Facebook is expected to see its shares sold between USD28 to USD35 (or around RM84 to RM105) upon listing. Depending on your broker, you may be able to purchase shares in lot sizes of 100 or less.

It would generally take 3 working days from the time you transact to the time you actually own the shares (commonly known as a settlement period of T+3).

I believe many people out there have the desire to start and own his/her business. But do we actually have the right attitude towards business? Do we have sufficient experience to start a business? Are we getting the right advice from the correct person? Or are we getting some advice from an advisor who has never been in a business or successful in his business? What kind of attitude do we have?

I still remember 12 years ago when I was involved in a Multi-Level-Marketing business. I’m not interested to mention what company it was. One of the upline or now I would like to call it mentor, said… What kind of attitude do you have? Do you have a $10 attitude or do you possess a $1000 attitude or do you own a $1,000,000 attitude?

That question was simple yet so meaningful inside. You can choose to absorb the meaning of the question on the surface. However, if you think deeper, the question does have a lot more meaning than just a piece of sentence. The Mentor which whom his name was SAM said again… There are many business people out there but the prime difference between all of them is how they think and act or in other words their “ATTITUDE”. If you have a $10 attitude, you will be and have a $10 business. If you have a $1000 attitude, then you will own a $1000 worth of business. If you have a $1,000,000 attitude, chances are you will own a business worth of $1,000,000. It’s pretty simple ain’t it.

Sam asked again, “Do you notice why there are 9 Proton cars and 1 Mercedes car out there on the road?“

He continued, “The reason is because of the business attitude they have. Have you seen one old ‘apek’ wearing a pair of shorts with multiple side pocket sand white singlet? He went inside a bank then he bring out huge amount of cash from his pockets to deposit his cash earned for the day before. His appearance is simple. Some will say that he is almost like a beggar accept he is clean. But the actual fact, he is a business owner that just came out of from a metallic gold E-Class Mercedes Benz which he drives.”

Who’ll imagined that? So, let’s reflect back to our own attitude. Even if we are not involve or planning to do a business, attitude is an imperative asset and treasure for us. Having the right attitude and mind set will allow success to reach us soon.

The word and meaning of attitude may vary from one to another. Hence, I’ll try to describe as close as possible the concept and the components of “attitude”.

Having a good business or winning attitude, one will be a team player, communicate effectively, exude confidence, hone his creative skills, accept and learn from criticism, self motivated & lead others, multitask and prioritize his to-do list, see the big picture. The right attitude along with the daily “focus” will often keep one happy in the quest for his financial freedom (business thinking wise).

I hope this simple explanation make some sense for you and me. I’m striving as well to have the correct attitude in my career and my business as well. In actual fact, there are more vital elements for a successful business. I’ll share the other points later in future. Stay tune.

What is You Reason for blogging?

I presume it may start because of your passion to write (like me). Some may want to have a platform to channel his or her feeling, emotion (or sometimes anger). So blog to promote or let others know about his or her business(es). Some even blog because his or her the desire to make money from blog(s).

Income Category in Blogging Context

If I can divide the income category into 2 huge groups, it will surely be (1) Active Income (2) Passive Income.

In case some of you don’t know, Active Income is when you earn money when you work. In other words, if you work you get paid, if you don’t work you don’t get paid. In the case of making money via blogging, the active income can be clearly visualize when you actively participate in programs such as Pay Per Post, Blogvertiser, Sponsored Reviews and others. This means that when you do the work such as writing articles to review a product or service, you will be paid. However, if you don’t do any review, you won’t get paid. As simple as that. For me, I don’t really focus on active income. However, once in a while, if somebody offers me attractive package, I will consider it. Sometimes active income can be quite lucrative. So, don’t underestimate the power of active income.

This is one of the passive income that I love. It's simple and purely PASSIVE...

Passive Income in the other hand is a process when you earn money after you do a “work once“. Then, if you stop doing the work, you will still earn the money. The concept of “work once” is quite subjective. Let’s consider few examples to better illustrate several scenarios of passive income.

If we look it in the context of an author of a book, the author may spend 4 months writing a fiction book. Then when the book is publish, he will get the royalty (income from selling the book). After the first printing of the book is sold out, comes the second batch of printing. The author will then get royalty income again from his book sold from the second edition. The process will repeat as long there is a demand for his book. If i look at this in the context of a singer, he will sing the a song in a studio for maybe one day (consider it to be a single release), then the CD or tape will be out for sale. As long as people buys his CD and tapes, he will earn money. In the case of the author, work once for him is a 4 months work and for the singer, it is one day work.

What about the context of blogging and earn passive income? The time allocated to blog may differ from each blogger. There are blogger who spend 2 to 4 hours per day blogging while there are bloggers who spend 7 hours per weak only to blog. It depends basically on the bloggers capacity and capability to manage their blogs. In order for a blog to starts generating passive income, a great deal of work must be carried out before ripping of the fruit. That means, a blog must be packed with great unique informative contents, have tonnes of back links and thousands of visitors before it starts generating money from ads. So, if we compare a bloggers effort of doing the “work once”, compared to the writer and singer, it will definitely be different. The bloggers definition of doing the work once may take up 1, 2, 3 or more years to complete. When the blog (let say the blog is Blog A) is established, the blogger spend lesser time on blog A and starts a new blog project (Blog B). At this point of time, Blog A has probably generating USD$1000 per month from various types of advertisements. Since Blog A is already so powerful and established, the blogger can spend maybe 1 hour per weak in that blog (which is minimum) but continues earning $1000 monthly. Isn’t that cool?

I love to blog because my passion of writing and sharing but at the same time I want to establish a great passive income stream. I can blog at my own time. Nobody controls me. I don’t have to report to anybody. I don’t have to entertain clients or speak with people. I just blog whenever I feel like it. I accidentally realize that I can earn passive income via blogging in the form of Google Adsense, Text-Link-Ads, TNX, Linkworth, Infolinks, Revresponse and few others.

5 Simple Ways To Increase Your Productivity

How’s your productivity this Monday morning? For me, I occasionally experience what we call Monday blues. However, slowly and surely, I’m developing some formula to eliminate those challenges. You just need to know how to do it and start being productive.

The truth is, there are many ways to increase productivity. No matter what it is that you’re doing online, these tips will help you no matter what. The truth is that focusing and being right on the edge to succeed online requires for you to think deeply and really stay focused. So, to help you out, I would like to share some basic points. Well, here’s exactly 5 ways to increase your productivity that you can start right away.

1. Work in the morning

Usually when you just wake up and you eat breakfast, your mind is stimulated and you end up gaining more focus. So, try working in the morning to see if that works or helps. It helped me for sure and it is my most productive time. I will sort out my work (list it out in my book) and do it one by one. I then cross out those that I have successfully done. I’ll try to make sure I cross all the listed activities. However, I admit that sometimes, there are some activities that I cannot finish in that day, so it will be brought forward to the next day. But, the bottom line is try to fully utilize the morning hours effectively.

2. Remove distractions

Removing distractions is the best way to gain momentum and to stay focused throughout building your campaign. I suggest that you try removing all of the distractions around you like Facebook, checking emails, cell phone, and really spend time on what you’re doing. Just force yourself to stay focus, set 1, 2 or 3 hours to be laser focus on your job, then reward yourself with 30 minutes of leisure or internet. Then, focus on your job again. Then relax again. Repeat this… That’s better than working with constant interruption from the internet and your friends.

3. Outsource

When you outsource your work, you give them the responsibility, allowing for you to spend time with your family, or do something else for your business. This is definitely a skill that you must master. How much do you value yourself? Are you worth $10 per hour? $100 per hour? $1000 per hour? You know it yourself. If you consider yourself $100 per hour, you should focus on work that can make you $100 per hour. Stop doing simple and no brainer job. Focus your energy and effort on activities that can make you at par with the $100 per hour rate. Hence, you need to be a good manager in outsourcing your work.

4. Get an education

No matter what kind of online business you’re tying to build, if you get an ebook, join a membership, or seek help on the topic, you can succeed and increase your productivity because of the fact that you’re receiving knowledge which you can implement. So, when you really needed, just invest some money and time to learn more. Get some coaching. Get some training. Get the technical knowledge that can make you more productive, effective and efficient, thus lead you to perhaps the $100 per hour rate (as the previous example). For your information, I invested substantial cash to learn specific knowledge, techniques and skills since the past 4 years. I’m still continuing my education…formally and informally.

5. Relax

If you really want to increase productivity, take a breather every few minutes. Just like everybody else, when you get stuck, there’s no doubt that you won’t be able to get out. To prevent yourself from struggling during those times that you lack focus, relax and take a breather. Relax by having a cup of coffee with your friends, watching movie with your love one, mingle with your kids or playing your favourite sport. This will help you to gain more focus when you go back. Just relax and enjoy…

These tips may not work for everybody, as each person deals with different situations and experiences different things. However, I’m sure you’ll find at least one tip that will help increase your productivity.
