I just collected the 1Malaysia Book Voucher few days ago and today, while having an early breakfast at Ruby Cafe (in my faculty) + reading Harian Metro with my other half, I stumbled upon the cartoon below. It is interesting, funny, sarcastic and meaningful. What if such situation really happen in our country?

I bet, a bunch of students will rush to the nearest book store and exchange the RM200 book voucher with the new Blackberry Bold 9900 (the model is mentioned for example purpose only). Imagine MPH bookstore or Badan Book Store or whatever book store launched such a spectacular offer!

But, don’t ever dream of this to happen…haha… This is just a joke! If you have the 1Malaysia Book Voucher, please use them wisely. Buy books that are going to be useful for you and your self development. I plan to buy a self or personal development book myself. Also don’t forget to bring your matric card or student identification card when using this voucher.

As I’m writing this entry, I only have another 22 minutes remaining to stay online using the pin that was provided to my wife (as a participant in a workshop in this hotel). At the same time, it is half time clash of the FA cup battle between Manchester United and Liverpool. Currently it is 1-1.

I have the luxury of time to think about my career and online business while monitoring my kids in the swimming pool. I managed to maintain something like USD300-400 per months in 2010 from my blogs. All has been achieved via my part time blogging activities. It’s not that much compared with other champions out there, but for me, it is a pocket money to buy stuffs. The problem then is the drop of income in 2011. I wonder why? What happen? This is what I have been analyzing. I don’t want 2012 to repeat the income misery of 2011. The year 2012 should be better and I have set certain online targets for me to achieve.

I haven’t written down all those target officially yet. However, the rough idea is in my head. Maybe I can share one of the target which is related to this blog. The rest I will reveal progressively. Is it too much or illogical if I say I want to target to earn $1000 per month from this blog alone? I plan to achieve this in January 2013.

I’m quit busy to day and I don’t have all the time in the world to blog….haha… Early in the morning there was already some sort of faculty award event and then I have to make a battle against myself to to some research work. Well, you know after 4 days of Chinese New Year break, it is not easy to start work with full momentum. Actually I don’t want to say that I’m busy, but that’s the actual fact. I got to know about this from Earncent just now and I think why don’t I try my luck. I’m not targeting to be awarded but I just want to get the blogosphere exposure. It is a festive season again as Chinese New Year will be celebrated tomorrow. Not only Chinese citizen but also the rest of the races in Malaysia used this splendid opportunity to go home to their hometown. We also decided to go back to my wife’s hometown in Kuantan as we have not been back there for quite some time. We started the journey in the afternoon. I actually wanted to start the trip in the morning but my wife wanted to spend the nice peaceful weekend to relax. She also has not started packing up our clothes and bag. As a result, we started to hit the north south highway at 12.30pm after having lunch at a mamak restaurant in Skudai.

I have anticipated that a heavy traffic jam will be waiting for us. And that’s true. As we entered the north south highway, we can already see a spectacular view. It’s the long traffic jam that we have not experience before.

I did not snap the photo at the beginning of the highway. It looked worse than this photo. This one was captured when we nearly reached the toll plaza to take the ticket.

And guess what. This is after exiting the plaza toll. The que and traffic jam is really enormous. Never did I experience such a heavy traffic jam like this before after exiting the toll plaza.  I witness many people snapping photos of this remarkable traffic jam as well. If I’m not mistaken after1 hour the traffic resume to a normal speed (90-110 km/h).

Now, I’m in Kuantan but I need to go to a local grocery shop. After getting back from there I’ll continue with the tips to avoid traffic jam ok…

OK, back to the real business. How to avoid traffic jam when returning back to your home town?

This is some of my brainstormed ideas. There are many more tips that you can find in the internet but some are not relevant to our situation (festive season) or some others are more related to traffic jam when going back and forth to work. So, here they are:

1. Take an early day off . This means that take an early holiday. Don’t travel the same time as others i.e. during the public holiday itself. You will be stuck with the rest that also plans to go back on that same holiday as well. By taking an early day off, you will save time and money because chances of you trapped in a traffic jam like me is greatly minimized.

2. Travel as early as possible (morning). If you cannot afford to take an early holiday off for whatever reason, then that’s still ok. What you need to do is pack your bags few days early and then when the holiday started, travel as early as possible. The earlier the better. If you can start your journey at 4 or 5 am, then there are huge chance that your journey will be smooth. This is because, more people tend to start their journey later in the day.

3. In Malaysia, it is wise if you follow PLUS Twitter Update. They provide 24 hours real time updates on the highway traffic situation. You can do that by following the PLUS Twitter service at www.twitter.com/plustrafik. If you don’t have the luxury of data package internet, then you can at least contact the PLUSLine at 1800 88 0000 which is available 24-hour every day. Please save this number into your mobile phones. If you are don’t have mobile internet data package and lazy to call Plusline number, then the next thing to do is just tune in to your favourite radio stations. From time to time, a report on the traffic condition will be aired.

4. Ditch your own vehicle and use public transport. One cool alternative if you are single or just married, you can choose to ditch your car and use public transport. A suitable public transport for this scenario is aeroplane and train. That will be convenient and probably more cost effective, depending on the distance of your hometown to where you are staying. If you are like me, having all together 6 person traveling, then public transportation may not be cost effective at all. So, just use your own vehicle to travel.

5. Get a GPS device with live traffic updates. These devices will usually cost at least $200, and some require an additional subscription cost. Some decent GPS that can aid you on this include Garmin Nuvi 265T and Garmin Nuvi 265 WT which provide the best value. This type of GPS is cool and can provide you with constant live traffic updates as you travel on the road.
