I have the luxury of time to think about my career and online business while monitoring my kids in the swimming pool. I managed to maintain something like USD300-400 per months in 2010 from my blogs. All has been achieved via my part time blogging activities. It’s not that much compared with other champions out there, but for me, it is a pocket money to buy stuffs. The problem then is the drop of income in 2011. I wonder why? What happen? This is what I have been analyzing. I don’t want 2012 to repeat the income misery of 2011. The year 2012 should be better and I have set certain online targets for me to achieve.

I haven’t written down all those target officially yet. However, the rough idea is in my head. Maybe I can share one of the target which is related to this blog. The rest I will reveal progressively. Is it too much or illogical if I say I want to target to earn $1000 per month from this blog alone? I plan to achieve this in January 2013.

As for today, I’ve started timing my blogging minutes for this blog. I hope I can be more consistent, provide better creative unique contents. So, from now on, I’ll try and blog consistently…hehe…Wish me luck.

How do you like my new theme?

This is what I wanted all this while. Generous space for me to exhibit some photos later. I don’t want to stick to the limited 450 pixels width that the previous theme can only accommodate. Now I have more. Check out the photo of my laptops below:

As for the new WordPress 3.0.4, I’m not sure yet what is the pros and cons. I just press the upgrade button and it automatically back up and upgrade to the latest version. I hope it is safe and stable.

My 2011 Blogging Style

I guess, I’m going to blog not as often as before. Possibly I’m going to make the post shorter as well. Don’t us me why because, well, you know… I have other commitments. So, I cannot focus entirely on this blog alone.

p/s: There are 3 laptops in the photo above. The black one is my first laptop (1998). I just threw it away somewhere during my massive once every 5 year spring cleaning day. Next to it is my wife’s HP compact (2004) while the Toshiba laptop (2006) lying behind also belongs to my wife. Not in the photo, my Toshiba Laptop (2008) and also my F700 HP Compact (2007) which is now experiencing a terrible mother board injury…hehe… I’m thinking of getting a new laptop for back up, just in case…

Day after day, my blog gained popularity and enjoyed spicy organic traffic from uncle Google. Soon, I discovered the opportunity of making money via blogging, which at that time was an alien to me. Since that moment, I never turn back. I keep learning and exploring more creative and innovative ways of making money through blogging. Though I don’t make hell a lot of cash via blogging, but hey…I still earn more than double what I’m paying my maid. That’s when I wrote a short Malay report called “Teknik RM1000 sebulan” which was released end 2009.

I then explored and find other ways on how I can increase my blog earning. That’s when I attended Smart Blogging Seminar conducted by problogger Rohaizad. In that seminar, I learned new ways of making money officially and in-officially from niche blogs. Shortly after that seminar, within less than a month, I managed to cover back the fee that
I paid to attend to that seminar which was RM400. I basically applied the technique and knowledge I obtained from the seminar.

8 months after that, to be exact, yesterday, I start thinking… What is my blogging direction?

I have about 3 dozens of blogs but my income is not beyond 3k yet!!! I need to do something. I need to change my blogging approach. I re-visited 2 blogs which once I occasionally visited while I was not tight up with experiments and re-search, Johnchow.com and Hongkiat.com. I carefully analyze their blogs. I checked the advertisement section and
do some fast calculation. Hey…this guy is earning more than $40k per month just from a blog called johnchow.com while the other guy is earning more than $4.5k per month just from his blog Hongkiat.com. If you are like me, dwelling in Malaysia, just do the maths. This Hong Kiat guy is earning more than RM12k per month, almost as equal to a professor’s salary in a public university. Just imagine how much John Chow is earning in Ringgit Malaysia? Multiply $40k with 3.14 = ……….. ?

So, I need to strategize. Should I split and divide my time to entertain 30+ niche blogs that I presently own and earn quite less OR focus on a minimum of 3 blogs ONLY and try to earn >$3k  per month? That’s more than RM10k per month!!!

It’s not really a huge decision, but still I need to make a decision, especially in this moment where I’m tied up with my research study.

So, what about you? If you are an expert, amateur or beginner blogger, you can also look at this angle. If you are problogger (chances are NO problogger will be reading my blog), you have nothing to think from this plain entry of mine because you’ve earn substantially handsome from your blogging or online property.

If you are a beginner and would like to have my opinion, then read the tips below:

1. Build a blog using your own domain and host the blog somewhere reliable.
2. Don’t use the free blogspot.com or wordpress.com.
3. Focus on creating yummy unique useful content everyday. It’s only one blog, so spend at least 30 minutes a day on your baby blog.
4. Build credibility and trust from your readers.
5. Focus on backlink as well, do lots of blog commenting.

What will happen then?

Your blog will grow bigger and more people will be following your blog.

That will be the time where you can start your own advertising space. Hmmm… What do you think of that?

Today is a very interesting day. Believe it or not, I taught my kids, Ikhwan (8) and Marsya (6) how to open, read, type and chat using their own email account. Before that, I thought both of them how to register and login their own email account.

So, it is official, Ikhwan and Marsya has their own email account and I can send email to them. Their mother can send email to them too. Their grandfather, uncles and aunties also can send email to them as well.

It is really interesting and I look forward to see how they will progress. I hope this exposure can stimulate their brain faster than normal. I hope this activity will be a good one to further educate and train them to be independence in information seeking. It was quite tough to explain to them about what is email, username, password, reply, chat etc. But the outcome was great… They seem to like the idea of being able to email and chat .

Alya (5) seems not interested yet to learn about email. Maybe next year I will teach her.

Following was my chat (GTalk) with Ikhwan just now… It was his first time chatting with me. Marsya was with him while he searched which letter on the keyboard to key in. They were both down stairs while I was up stairs. The overall chat took 22 minutes, mainly because I have to wait him to type the chat… haha…

Next project

After they are familiar with login, reading and replying emails, I will move on and teach them to create and maintain their own blog.

For a start they will use blogspot.com but then, after a while and when they are able to understand blogging, I’ll present them their own dotcom. I want to provide them the dot com and web 2.0 adventure. It is the web 2.0 era and soon web 3.0 will emerged. I don’t want my kids to be laid back and not knowing or not alert on the internet wave. I want them to make full use of what is good from the internet.

After they are familiar with email and blog, I’ll introduce them to Facebook. Facebook is equally important web 2.0 tool nowadays for networking and other positive activities.

And finally, when the timing is good and when I see some sign of maturity, I’ll train them on how to make money online. I strongly believe, they will be excited to be able to make money by themselves. When? I can’t say yet. If either one of them are ready at the age of 13, I’ll teach him/her. If either one is ready at 10 years old, why the heck not?

Then, I need to teach them how to register google adsense, click bank etc. I also need to expose to them about paypal and how to withdraw money using western union or our own internet banking system. Wow…that, I believe would be very interesting…

I’ll let reveal when they have their own personal blog that they run themselves soon…
