Introducing email, blog and facebook to my son & daughter

Today is a very interesting day. Believe it or not, I taught my kids, Ikhwan (8) and Marsya (6) how to open, read, type and chat using their own email account. Before that, I thought both of them how to register and login their own email account.

So, it is official, Ikhwan and Marsya has their own email account and I can send email to them. Their mother can send email to them too. Their grandfather, uncles and aunties also can send email to them as well.

It is really interesting and I look forward to see how they will progress. I hope this exposure can stimulate their brain faster than normal. I hope this activity will be a good one to further educate and train them to be independence in information seeking. It was quite tough to explain to them about what is email, username, password, reply, chat etc. But the outcome was great… They seem to like the idea of being able to email and chat .

Alya (5) seems not interested yet to learn about email. Maybe next year I will teach her.

Following was my chat (GTalk) with Ikhwan just now… It was his first time chatting with me. Marsya was with him while he searched which letter on the keyboard to key in. They were both down stairs while I was up stairs. The overall chat took 22 minutes, mainly because I have to wait him to type the chat… haha…

Next project

After they are familiar with login, reading and replying emails, I will move on and teach them to create and maintain their own blog.

For a start they will use blogspot.com but then, after a while and when they are able to understand blogging, I’ll present them their own dotcom. I want to provide them the dot com and web 2.0 adventure. It is the web 2.0 era and soon web 3.0 will emerged. I don’t want my kids to be laid back and not knowing or not alert on the internet wave. I want them to make full use of what is good from the internet.

After they are familiar with email and blog, I’ll introduce them to Facebook. Facebook is equally important web 2.0 tool nowadays for networking and other positive activities.

And finally, when the timing is good and when I see some sign of maturity, I’ll train them on how to make money online. I strongly believe, they will be excited to be able to make money by themselves. When? I can’t say yet. If either one of them are ready at the age of 13, I’ll teach him/her. If either one is ready at 10 years old, why the heck not?

Then, I need to teach them how to register google adsense, click bank etc. I also need to expose to them about paypal and how to withdraw money using western union or our own internet banking system. Wow…that, I believe would be very interesting…

I’ll let reveal when they have their own personal blog that they run themselves soon…

New Family Activities This Weekend

Last week, for the first time, my family watched Johor Bahru motorcross race and we were very excited it. This week (Saturday), we tried something new as well. Yesterday, while accompanying my wife playing bowling in Skudai Parade conjunction with our sports week at our workplace, I entertained all our 3 kids. It’s not easy to handle 3 kids who have their own thoughts and mind. One wants to watch movie, another one wants to buy toys, one want this, one want that… Ahrgghh…. But I still need to take care and entertain them… They are my kids and I love them all.

So, I brought them down for some ice cream at MacDonald’s booth and get some thinking play games – Monopoli and Stake Your Claim. We played both games while their mother were still throwing the heavy balls. However, it was not really comfortable to play the board game there, so after a while the kids get bored. Despite of their interest of playing Monopoli, they are still new the game concept. That’s fine… the game is good enough as it educate them to count, calculate, think and instill some level of enterprising trait. I hope my kids can play Monopoli very well later.

After that, to kill the time, we went into the karaoke box for the first time. The kids were very excited with the microphone and sang like crazy. I invested RM10 for 10 songs and get 1 free. So, we selected few songs and sang like nobodies business… Haha…. it was very fun…

Earlier today (Sunday), we played Monopoli properly. I became the bank manager. Ikhwan, Marsya, Alya and mummy played. After 20 minites, Alya got bored and left the game. I can’t blame her. She’s just 4 years old. So, I took over her game and became the banker at the same time. I bought some more properties on top of what Alya have bought earlier. I build more shops and to cut the story short, everybody either bankrupt or gave up… So, I won. Ikhwan cried, not accepting that he has lost money and properties!!! Marysa cried as well but not as bad as her brother.

Now what? Marsya has asked to play the game again tonight!!!

How far should I push myself? How far should you push yourself?

This is a very interesting topic, for me. Why?

Because, I think I’m pushing myself too much! I’m pushing myself too much that although my heart can tolerate, my eyes cannot anymore. My present work requires me to write a technical paper about my research work and to submit it to a very high quality journal with high impact factor. I have not done that before, but I’m trying my best now to accomplish that. After I completed this technical paper and hopefully managed to get it published, I’m going to carry on working on my next technical paper which I plan to cover about the thermodynamic feasibility of my process. That is not easy… I need to study a software and use it to simulate a modeling of the reaction processes in my reactor. Oh God…. it’s so tough that sometimes I feel like vomiting and just sleep. And after that, I need to write 3 more papers as I proposed in my research proposal. Being able to at least published 3 technical papers in quality high impact factor journal means Ph.D is (halfway) inside my hand. Oh God… please help me and give me the power and strength…

My wife always say that I push myself too much! Is that so? Am I like that? I just want to get this Ph.D study of mine settled once and for all. I don’t want to delay and drag it any longer. I’m too old already to be a student. Am I?

When I try to continue this work at home, I can’t. I lose to the battle. The battle of my interest at home which is pursuing my online ambition. I have no motivational problem on that. It’s fun and I feel great enhancing my technical knowledge on the engineering part of the search engine. Plus I need to spend time with my kids…

So what now?

I need to stay focus and focus… to complete my Ph.D… as soon as possible. It’s a personal challenge. I need to work smart and hard.

The same goes to all of you. Stay focus in whatever you are doing to succeed with flying colours…

October Rain Rambling

As I’m writing typing this post, I’m watching the live match of Manchester United versus Liverpool at Anfield. Man U is currently 0-1 down.

OK, I just want to ramble a little bit here since my older rambling few months ago.

1. Decided family is my priority

I’ve stressed this in my earlier post but I also need to highlight that I’m going to try my best to provide better attention to my parents and in laws as well. This is very important to develop and maintain a good inter family relationship. Just prepared my son for his examination at school tomorrow. I hope he’ll be serious and do his very best.

2. Tile project

We are going to work on our tile project at our house porch. This project have been delayed for so long. I think now is the right time to settle it once and for all. I’m leaving the style, concept and design of the tiles-decor to my other half. I hope we can complete this project in fortnight.

3. Google Privacy Policy

Wow…I totally forgot to fix this earlier. I just realized about it yesterday. I’ve inserted the policy yesterday night after getting some help and feedback from few online friends which include Azwan, Titan, Hasbul and catzer.

4. Which Camera?

Should I take Nikon D90 or Panasonic DMC-F1. I really fancy the fantastic Nikon D90 but I know for the time being I don’t really have the time to meddle with it. I have other very important priorities to take care first. In the other hand, Panasonic DMC-F1 seems to be an interesting digital camera for me to own. Thanks to Azwan for providing me an idea on this camera.

5. Legoland Johor

Seriously, I’m very eager to be among the first Legoland Theme Park Johor visitor. The Legoland in Iskandar will be the 6th in the world and the 2nd in Asia. Is there any other theme park going to be as happening as this one?

6. My Ph.D status

On going… I’m still in my first semester. I’m targeting to complete them within 3 years. I’m just trying my best to focus it. Pray for my success please .

7. My TNX project

I just started this project, submitted 4 of my english blogs. So far, there are no answer yet. I also just signed up for the members only TNX forum which was set up by Titan. I hope I can earn some dollars monthly from this project.

8. Gold, gold, gold

Want to buy or sell gold. I’m talking real golds. If yes, you can discuss and do business with my borther Budeen. He is now into it and I know if he do something, he does it right, with dignity.

OK, the game just ended and … it was a disaster…damn…

Family is my priority

Sometime in this life we have to make some sacrifices. That is life. I’m very grateful to have one happy family. I’m blessed with a great job and the opportunity to further my study in the highest level. What else can I ask more?

I realized I have earlier mentioned about arranging my online activities. But then, I also realize that, I need to prioritize my time with my kids, especially to monitor their studies.

Ikhwan, my active eldest son, is in standard one and require serious attention from us (the parents). He likes to play and go to school. But when it comes to doing homework and studying, he needs somebody to motivate him. That’s when we come in. I’m now committed in spending 1-2 hours every night to ensure he can perform in his study, especially in reading Malaysian and English language, jawi and mathematics. I hope we can prepare him well enough before the final examination next month. We want to see him improve his grade in his examination in both his official school and religious school.

Marsya, 5, our expressive first daughter is very diligent and require less attention in terms of her studies. She’s doing very well in her pre-school and we are trying to bring her up to another level. The only thing is her mood which is sometimes unpredictably annoying.

Alya, 3+, our charming third child, is still very small. We don’t really expect her to study seriously for the time being. We want her to have her own sweet and fun time studying at school.

That’s the current sacrifice I have to make. Maybe I cannot call it sacrifice, but rather define it as responsibility. Before this, I have not really paid sufficient attention to their studies. After work, at night, I only focus on my online activities. But, their future is very important and precious to us. We don’t want to gamble their future. We want the best for them. We want them to excel academically and morally and grow up to be good people with great career. We have to do our best to provide them with the best education and support plus motivation + love.

That’s it. I’ll reduce my online time in order to ensure my kids are doing well. I have to re-arrange my strategy because I have to spend more time thinking and running my ph.d research too.

Oh gosh… when can I relax???

My online time will be roughly around 1 hour every night, I’m guessing… And I must proportion it finely to do all the blogging, affiliate, article marketing, SEO, and other making money online duties…

Please, I seek other almost similar parents to share your experiences with me…
