Mentors, they are important to me

Published by cyza under Blogging ~ Sharring

MentorPic

We are a human being that started from knowing nothing. We grow older and progressively learn many things along the years. When we are small, our main duty is to study, study and study. Nothing else. Yep, nothing else matter…

But then as we approach adulthood, we began exploring various other areas. We explore new interest, new hobbies, new this and new that. For certain things that we want to establish our expertise, we need somebody to guide, monitor and assist us. Those people, regardless of their field of expertise I regard as my precious mentor. They are like a catalyst, something and somebody that can speed the process of us getting to what we aim for. They will show us which path to take and which to avoid.

My mentors

As some of you know, I’m currently pursuing my Ph.D study in chemical engineering and I have a supervisor  (professor) to guide and maneuver me doing research work, writing technical papers and other research related issues. I also have a co-supervisor in Finland which I refer to once in a while.

At the same time, I am also in my quest to be a professional engineer and I have a mentor who is an experienced professional engineer to guide and help me be one. He works in KL (I work in JB) but that does not matter because I  will always meet him every quarterly to let him assess my performance and give advice. Currently he is in Uzbekistan, managing some civil project there. I will meet him when he is back here.

When I was working as a process engineer few years back, I have my senior executives as my mentor. They will share their experiences, knowledge and skills with me. Oh, I miss those days in the plant.

Besides my professional career mentioned above, I’m deeply and madly in love with the internet. I’m not really a fan of those social sites like Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin. I’m only using them to market my brand and communicate with my networks. I’m more towards blogging (part time blogger) and now slowly learning to try my luck selling some digital product online @ Internet Marketer (IM).

For those 2 co-curricular activities, I also have my own mentor to guide and help when I am in need of their advice. Those are people who have more knowledge and more skills than me. I have few person which I consider mentors when it comes to blogging. We are colleagues but at certain times, they are my blogging mentors.

At the same time, I have another IM mentor who is very kind enough to spend his precious time teaching and guiding me when I’m in need of him. His vast knowledge, experience and success in internet marketing inspires me to be a great IM. I’m making myself to be one. Oh God…please make my journey smooth…

When it comes to gold investment, I have 2 mentors, both who are my younger brothers. They have more comprehension and knowledge in gold related matters. They also have invested massively in gold.

When it comes to financial management and investments, I also have a mentor too. We never went through financial subjects or financial management in school nor university. The most we had is accounting and economics. Hence, it is important to have a financial mentor to help and guide us.

Am I a mentor to others?

Hmmm… I don’t really know how to answer that. There is no official mentorship going on accept for me mentoring my undergraduate student to do research closely related to mine.

I know some people, including my youngest brother, who maybe consider me as their mentor in blogging and internet marketing. Honestly, I don’t consider myself any sort of expert in blogging and Search Engine Optimization (SEO), but when somebody asks about it, I will definitely share. It’s my passion and I love discussing about it. In fact I don’t mind teaching and guiding those who are serious about blogging and SEO with zero charge. No problem at all.

I hope and wish that I’ll be a good mentor to my kids. I want to be a good father and example to them. That’s very important. Every body wants their kids to grow and be good and kind people, responsible and honourable, having good career and so on. We (me and my wife) also wanted that and we need to provide the best education and training for them. No matter how it cost, we will get the money to spend.

You are either a mentee or a mentor

Yes you are. If you are not either a mentee nor a mentor, I’m not sure where do you live and what you are.You might not be chasing for something. You might not have any interest in anything. You might not have a career you want to take care off. Maybe you are have not discovered your passion. Maybe you are not yet establish in what you are doing now.

It’s really something you need to think off.

Yep, think about it.

When grandfather & grandchild email each other…

Published by cyza under Blogging ~ Sharring

email-marsya

My father cc the email above to me while replying to Marsya. It was Marsya’s first email to her grandfather after learning about email last week. I love to read this email because it shows the interaction between a 6 year old kid with her 64 year old grandfather. The age gap is 58 years and how amazing technology can connect them both.

Marsya sent the email yesterday and she waited for Tokwan (grandfather) to reply fast. However, we have to inform that Tokwan can only reply tomorrow (today) when he is in office. Today, Tokwan replied and I witness this miracle and I’m very happy.

The sentence highlighted in blue is written by Marsya. In English in sound:

Grandfather, how are you doing? If you are healthy, Marsya will be happy.

Was that cute? My father replied:

I’m good Marsya. Thanks for this email. I’ll pray that you can be clever and grow quickly so that you can go to school. I love it when my grandchildren can often email me.

The reply was equally cute for me…

Out of routine

yellow_guy_crazy_hg_wht

Currently I’m blogging from my brother in law’s house in Bukit Beruntung, a cowboy town adjacent to Rawang. Luckily he has the streamyx broadband installed in his extended corner lot house.

Earlier, after Ikhwan school session ended on a brisk Friday afternoon, we headed up north to Cemor, a small town north of Ipoh to attend a cousin’s wedding. The wedding was held on Saturday afternoon but the preparation took place 2-3 days earlier.

We arrived at the house in Cemor at 2.00 am. We relaxed and then slept at the living hall. The next day, I spared my physical energy to assist the cooking process. I helped to do some “kenduri” activity stuffs. It was really tiring but well, I rather help than just sit and see. However, the most interesting thing is my kids also helped and that was very nice to see. I’ll upload some photos about that soon after I arrive back to my home in JB.

Later the same day, we move down south to Bukit Beruntung. There were all together 9 people in my white Proton Exora, which include my mother, father and sister in law.

We arrived at Bukit Beruntung and landed safely in the house at 9 pm. All of us relaxed, watched some malay drama and later end the night – sleeping zzzzzzzz…..

We are going to continue our journey to Kuantan later this afternoon and stay in Kuantan until Wednesday.

Hence, within that time, I maybe not connected to the internet. I’ll use the time to do my offline work…. hehe…

OK, that’ s it…a little update from me… Have a nice prosperous holiday.

Sorry this is not productive…

Published by cyza under Blogging ~ Sharring

As the title says… this is not a productive entry at all. I’m just sharing my thoughts at this moment. To be honest, I’m sleepy although it is 4.37pm now… A little exhausted, not sure from what…

Well, here are 5 things that I’m thinking right now:

1. When will I published my first ebook? I have drafted it but it is not yet completed… I got both Malay and English ebook to publish and I’m going to let it go very cheap. I want to spread some piece of my knowledge.

2. When will I get my professional engineer status? It’s killing me. I need to complete all my job records and reports as well as prepare a project paper for the final interview.

3. When will my supervisor check my technical literature review paper. I have given the draft 3 weeks ago. My co-supervisor in Finland has already given his correction and comments. I need to publish this paper as soon as possible to boost up my motivation.

4. When will I complete writing my first malay book? This should be an easy one but the job is not done yet! Oh God?

5. When will I have my forums launched? I want to have a forum for my chemical engineering niche and also town niche. But, I’m still thinking the methodology of it. I already found somebody i can hire to set up the forum for me at a decent price. But I can’t yet trust him to do it for me as I have to reveal all my cpanel and ftp username and password. That’s really danngerous. I’ve tried setting up the forum but it is not easy. It’s not via fantastico.

6. When can I drive a nice car? This is really driving me crazy. I wanted this car very bad but I need to learn how to relax and calm myself. I will when I have reached my financial target.

7. Can I maintain myself to be good and prepare for haj? I need to do that. For sure. I have registered with Tabung Haji with my wife and last Thursday, we were informed that our turn is at 2013. That’s 3 years from now. Really need to prepare physically, spiritually and mentally.

8. When will I arrange my table at home nicely? The table is in complete in mess and I don’t like to look at it. Who made the mess? Me… Need to spend some time for some cleaning and arrangement.

9. When I’m going to switch to my new hosting? Maybe next week. This is very important for my online wealth!!!

10. When will I get my pH.D? Haha….need to do this very very fast… I just want to complete it on time. I have until June 2012 to complete my final official study. Pray for me please…

That’s it. That’s my nasty out of the mind rambling this Friday afternoon…

Take care…

Tomorrow, we’re are going to Kuantan. My wife will be meeting her supervisor for final check of her ph.D thesis.

6 Reasons why we love having Macdonald’s breakfast

Published by cyza under Blogging ~ Sharring, Food Stuff

We now have a new place for breakfast. It has been 3 days back to back that we had our breakfast in Macdonald’s. It is indeed a nice new place to enjoy a peaceful and pleasant breakfast. Our choice is the 24 hours Macdonald’s beside Shell near UTM.

Here are 6 reasons why I love breakfast at Mcdonalds:

1. I can read free newspaper. They serve News Straight Times, The Sun, Harian Metro and Berita Harian. There is one or two Chinese news paper that I could not read…

2. They provide wireless internet. So, after reading newspaper, I can browse check my emails there.

3. The place is cozy , comfortable and relaxing. No doubt with that. We tend to spend extra hours there, eating , chatting, reading newspaper and internet without any interruption.

4. The breakfast options/menu is good and the price is reasonable. I don’t have to buy 2 portions of breakfast for me and my wife. We share it, not because we are stingy, but both of us eat less. Even we share food, sometimes, we have to force ourselves to finish them.

5. Free coffee refill. This is very good for us. A set of breakfast will have a cup of coffee. So, when the coffee is not enough, we can just refill them. The coffee is also tasty and delicious…

6.  Free car park and easy accessibility. This is important. If the car park is not there, it’s going to trouble the customers. The car park is abundantly available and it is just a few steps from the restaurant.

So far, those are the six points I can think off. If any of you can add more on to it, please feel free to say it…

Surviving life without the…

Published by cyza under Blogging ~ Sharring

taman-esplanade-kuantan-river-view

As a person who are always hooked to the net, in other word, often staying online, can you stand a day offline? Or 1 week offline? I’m throwing this question to learn and comprehend how extreme netizen like me and you can cope without the magic line (internet connection)? I’ll share my experience on how I managed to overcome the situation, the emotion and strength during this long festive break. I’ll share it later when i reach home and united with my wired broadband… I’m now in Kuantan…

……………………………………………………………………………………………………….

One day after the above entry was written…

Now, I’m in my wife’s supervisor’s house, in Kuantan and the beautiful part is he has streamyx wireless broadband installed in his house. So, I took the opportunity to do some work that I have to do before checking my emails, updating my blog etc. I found that my blog was badly attacked with spam since I was away for 2-3 days from the internet. I hate spam!!! This shows that I need to installed a more powerful plugin to inhibit bad spammers from bombarding my comment box with a dozen of links.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………….

OK, back to the first paragraph above about what to do and how to overcome yourself when you don’t have the magic internet connection with you. This tips do not apply to those who have celcom or maxis wireless broadband… You are always connected to the net whenever you want. People like me don’t have those broadband yet because I already have streamyx at home and also wireless internet at office. But, I do plan to get myself a prepaid broadband soon so I won’t suffer the way I am now… ;)

Allow me to share my experience on how I spent my time and how I managed to leverage my desperation from the the absenteeism of the net.

1. I must be mentally strong :) This is very important. I think I managed that well enough.

2. I use Celcom service from my wife’s hand to stay connected to the internet using your handphone (if your handphone can browse the internet). I chose to surf 1 day (RM6) or 7 days (RM20) and send an SMS to 28882 and wait for further instruction from Celcom. Surfing from the handphone may not be as satisfying compared to surfing on a pc or laptop, but it is still a better alternative rather than not knowing what is happening in my email, Facebook and blog…

3. Now that I don’t have that much time to spend online, I can do some house keeping in my laptop. That simply means clearing what is not needed in my hard disc, sending documents to the most suitable folders and so on. Now, my desktop is clear and I’m happy.

4. I also now can spend more quality time with my kids and family. This can be done via several ways such as watching TV together (done that), brought my family to a mini zoo in Kuantan (done that)… and others… :)

Well that’s it… I’ll still be in Kuantan without the true internet connection till Friday, possibly. After that, then I’ll be in my house in JB and back to business…

Should I get my kids a dedicated laptop and Web 2.0?

Last week, I attended Matlab training with my wife, a training that I organized on behalf of the post graduate society (I’m the post graduate society president in my faculty). My pH.D supervisor also participated in the same training and sat next to my wife. On one of the break during the training, we chit chat about our kids… how our kids are performing in school, how they are progressing etc…

She (my supervisor) highlighted that her son who is in standard 4, is crazy about Farmville. It is difficult to go anywhere because he will always want to get back home, to be online, and work on his farmville in his facebook account. I was amazed that his son has already explored the net and meddle with facebook, uploading photos and videos.

After the training, in our white Proton Exora, on our way back home, I discussed with my wife about our kids. We think it is time for us to seriously expose our kids to the computer and internet. Before this, Ikhwan (standard 2 primary school) and Marsya (6) has been exposed to flash games and youtube. Alya (5) will tagged along with her brother and sister infront of the laptop(s).

Maybe now is the time for Ikhwan to utilize the laptop (or computer) for his early education. There are some online tutorial in the net which we or the school can subscribe. Maybe he can also learn to use google to learn many things, off course with our supervision.

Maybe we should get a dedicated personal computer for the kids…

What do you think? Is it too early?

I cannot focus at home!!!

Published by cyza under Blogging ~ Sharring

You see, I’m a normal guy with a family, 3 kids, have my own professional career. I’m currently doing my Ph.D studies in semester 2. Yes, it’s still early as Ph.D normally requires 6 semesters. At the same time, I have to settle a consultancy project them I’m in charge off before I started my studies. My research requires me to write technical papers and publish them a lot. Not only in international indexed journal, but also write in book chapters and in magazine as well. That’s seriously not easy, but that’s a challenge I need to overcome.

At the same time, I was elected as the president of Post Graduate Society at my faculty. Wow…another big task and responsibility for me. In my research group, I’m responsible for a few things as well. I run a homestay business with my wife and colleague, which is quite profitable.

My task as a researcher/students occasionally demands me to continue my job at home. That’s the problem!!!

I always bring back my work to home but the problem is I CANNOT do them at home.

Why?

Because, no matter how… I can’t focus on those job at home because my mind and heart will only drive me to my blogs and internet / online activities. For instance, I have to correct and improve my ph.d proposal that I need to submit tomorrow, but I can’t find the strength and the will power to do it. I’ll lose the battle at home… I’ll lose to the desire of creating and establishing my online empire.

Are you facing the same thing? Same problem? Please help me…

3 Money-Making Niche You Can Use in Less Than 5 Minutes

Published by cyza under Make Money, review

Blogging can make money. That’s for sure. Affiliate can make even more money. But the problem is mastering all the skills and techniques to be grow the affiliate business. If you are a regular in Cyza Sector, you’ll notice me mentioning my interest to be involve in internet affiliate business.

Honestly, I must say that, I am struggling to start up my affiliate business. Out of a sudden, I found this program which was just recently launched. It is a speedy way to make money from affiliate business using products from clickbank. After 48 hours analyzing the program and system, I decided to give it a shot. I hope I have luck on this.

Off course there are pro and cons of joining this program.

OK, since I’ve joined this program for about 72 hours already, I’ve test run it a little. I haven’t had the opportunity to spend more time on this as I was stuck with another non-online job.

Pro (Advantage) – in no particular order

  • Set up the sites in just 5 minutes. 6 ready made + 29 possible custom made videos ready to be uploaded to youtube.com
  • Start begin marketing effort using ready made + custom made video (with your domain) right away.
  • Start article marketing right away. 20 articles provided.
  • Video tutorial and ebook on how to make videos + other traffic methods are available. Hence making amateur people like me can learn all these available powerful traffic techniques immediately.
  • Do NOT need auto-responder.
  • NO need to think of auto-responder sequence – as the system will do the job for you.
  • NO need to do niche research.
  • All we have to do is marketing and wait for the Clickbank income.
  • Every month, members will get a new clickbank product on anonymous niche to promote.
  • For the first month (now, if you register fast), you’ll get 3 fantastic niches. I’ve begin promoting.
  • The system is – I can say Automatic or almost Automatic.

Cons (Disadvantage) – I can see right now 2 cons:

  • We promote our site but we cannot collect the email list.
  • Possible competition with other members if we don’t market creative enough.

Personal view

For me it is tricky and will take relatively longer time to master the affiliate skills despite of reading and mentoring with Affiliate Gurus. However, to taste international affiliate profit faster, I decided to be a member of this plug and play program. I can easily set up my site in truly 5 minutes. And after 12-15 minutes, I already have 3 powerful niche sites. The next thing for me to do is to brand my video, upload them and do some article marketing. That’s the marketing part. It’s all ready for me. The membership price for founding member is USD29 per month, which I think is reasonable (only for the first batch). I heard today that there are only 12 spots left for this membership price. If I can manage 2 sales a month, the commission is more than enough to cover my fixed monthly membership fees. But, I’m going to target more sales. I’m going to try at least to get USD500 per month for a start. Wish me luck…

If you are interested, you can investigate more by clicking the READY-NICHE-PROFIT below. I’m not asking you to get hold of this program. I’m just sharing what I’m doing now with you. I know, some of you are just like me, wanting to run an affiliate business, but for some reason, stuck somewhere… Good luck… :)

Example of video that I just re-brand from the membership area to promote my site:

D-Link Wireless Router in Action in My House

Published by zaki under Uncategorized

set up wireless router

Since I bought a new laptop last month, I added to my collection, a new so called gadget – “wireless router”, in order to (1) reduce messy confusing wires in my house and (2) enable both laptops (me & my wife’s) online at the same time.

After work, I went to Citect IT shop at Taman Universiti, Skudai and asked for the wireless router since I already have the broadband streamyx modem. The not really friendly guy behind the counter offered me Aztech and D-Link. I asked to check on the D-Link wireless router. To be honest, I have very little comprehension and knowledge about the wireless router. I have seen one of the D-Link models at my brother’s apartment and I was very pleased with the signal and performance. Hence, from brother’s recommendation, I chose D-Link DIR-300 wireless G router and paid MYR135 for it.

The router has high speed Wireless LAN connection and support both IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g. It can go up to 54Mbps with wireless G series. As most other wireless router, the internet connection can be shared with 4 build in port switch.

wireless-ap-network

At home, without further delay, I immediately opened the box and worked on the installation together with my other half. We followed the step by step guide in the CD installer and after about 30 minutes, we were done. Both of the laptops were connected to the wireless router and broadband modem. We were very delighted after successfully installing the wireless router. However, we noticed that our line is still not yet secured. I have to figure out how to set the security and password. So far, I have not yet search on how to set the security and password. Anybody want guide me? You can save me some time researching it in Google….

Wireless Router

After this I’m aiming for wireless mouse and wireless printer. I wonder if there is wireless power supply for the laptop!!?? What about you? What will be your next gadget?
